FAQs
Have more questions on charging the Subaru Solterra? See here for our common questions in regard to charging stations and accessories.
- What is the difference between single phase and three phase power?
The main difference between single phase chargers and three phase chargers is the charging speeds and how many lines of power are routed to each.
- 7kW is our single phase charger. It charges slower than 22kW but most homes will require this charger due to the power available through the switchboard.
- 22kW is our three phase charger. Three phase chargers have the capability to charge at a faster rate than the single phase, however installing in the home is not available to everyone as this requires existing three-phase power setup. The design of the vehicle will determine how much power can be drawn from the charger regardless of how fast the AC charger is.
How to know what power is supplied to your home:
Single-Phase Power: Look for a single pole RCBO (switch) on your switchboard, labelled ‘Main Switch’.
Three-Phase Power: Look for a three-pole RCBO (switch) on your switchboard, labelled ‘Main Switch’.
If you are unsure, consulting an electrician can help you verify your home’s power capacity.
- What is the difference between 7kW and 22kw1 Chargers?
The main difference between the two comes in the power supply and reliability in delivery. The three phase charging has a higher power transfer capacity (up to 22kW) than the single phase (up to 7kW).
1. The Subaru Solterra has a maximum AC charging output of 11kW.
- How long does a 7kW and 22kW1 charger take to charge my Subaru Solterra?
